Sometimes Motherhood Gives Us Exactly What We Needed All Along

Mommy needs 15 minutes to herself and starts to get herself ready for the day.

Then you hear the pattering of little feet and a door creaking open.

One of your children escaped her dad and wants to stay with you.

You try to coax her back, but she protests.

She wants to stay with you, she begs. But, she doesn't get one-on-one time often.

So you let her.

A Mother’s Love by Danielle Sherman-Lazar

Taking a shower is taking time for yourself, to recenter, but with one of your kids joining you, it’ll be anything but peaceful.

As the water wraps you in a warm hug, you see a little face. Nose pressed to the glass.

You draw a smiling face on the glass.

“Draw hair!” your child excitedly jumps.

So, you draw big fuzzy hair, and your child’s big smile brings sunshine to your heart.

You turn the water off and make up a silly song, and you both dance and laugh so hard as you dry yourself off.

And you have much-needed one-on-one time with your child.

You know your daughter feels how much she’s loved and how much she matters, but she’s in competition with her siblings for attention. And sometimes, she gets lost in the chaos.

So, your morning wasn’t what you expected, but that’s the beauty of motherhood.

It gives you just what you and your children needed all along.
